Passion vs Purpose
The past month or so I've been thinking about the difference between passion and purpose. Often the terms are used interchangeably, however there is a difference between them. Passion as defined by the dictionary states that it is a strong and barely controllable emotion. Purpose as defined by the dictionary states that it is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.
As we look at the definition of each word clarity can be achieved. Passion can an should be viewed as an internal force. It is something that is liked or you enjoy doing. It can also be viewed as a selfish act that is done strictly for personal emotion. Purpose though can be viewed as an external force. It is something that your drawn to by an outside force such as an Higher Power, Divinity, God, etc.... Because purpose is external drawing you in it can be viewed as a selfless act. It is something you are drawn to do for others. To put it simply passion is a selfish pursuit and purpose is selfless. Another way to view it is passion is about you and purpose is about others.
These term although used interchangeably are meant to be distinguished so that they can support one another. As I see it passion is the fuel for your purpose. Or even better yet its the wind touching the sail of your ship. Without it you can't move towards your destiny. And without purpose you wouldn't have a destination.
